History of The Merrion Inn

The Merrion Inn has gone through a few facelifts over its life but remains a landmark pub in Dublin. The pub, designed by Cantrell & Crowley Architects, was extensively refurbished in 1991 to create a modern interpretation of a traditional Irish pub.

Eamonn & Paddy Mc Cormack went into the business with their father and the business continued to grow with a second premises in Bray, Co. Wicklow. The advent of pub grub changed the idea of food in Irish pubs and both Eamonn & Paddy embraced the idea of restaurant quality food being served in pubs.

Both Mc Cormack’s of Mounttown and Mc Cormack’s of Bray went on to win catering awards for the quality of their food, which was a far cry from the days of toasted sandwiches and a bowl of soup. Mc Cormack’s of Mounttown was crowned the winner of the National Bar Catering Competition in 1988 and the family has not looked back since.

The pub boasts an enclosed beer garden that is a real little sun trap, a hidden gem amongst Dublin pubs. When the sun goes down, the covering canopy is extended and the gas heaters and plasma TV ensure a comfortable and cosy outdoor atmosphere.
